ESwatini unrest: IMBISA Statement

"The Inter-Regional Meeting of Bishops of Southern Africa (Bishops of the Roman Catholic Church in Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, São Tomé e Príncipe, South Africa (Republic of) and Zimbabwe) wishes to express its sadness and concern on the ongoing events in the Kingdom of Eswatini which have resulted in the loss of lives and livelihoods and calls for restraint and a spirit of meaningful dialogue among all sectors in the Kingdom.

As Bishops we condemn the extrajudicial killings, indiscriminate arrests, abductions and torture that have since been reported. In the same breath we unequivocally condemn the destruction of both public and private property. Such destruction of property certainly works against the common good as the property is required for the integral development of the country."
