Transfiguration: listen to him

Lent is a journey and on this second Sunday we travel from the dessert where Jesus was tempted last Sunday to the top of the mountain where he is transfigured.

That familiar voice of the Father Jesus heard at his baptism is addressed to us now saying: “This is my Son, the beloved... Listen to him”.

• Lent is a special time to listen to this Jesus whose glory is today manifested on the mountain with Moses and Elijah by his side,
• in the same way that we will be called to listen to the one who will be lifted up from the earth not on a mountain but on the cross having two thieves by his side.

Lent is not a time to “pick and choose” the words we like to hear but to fully listen to Jesus making his words and life our own so that we may have fullness of life.
