"The Southern Africa Catholic Bishops Conference would like to convey sincere condolences to the victims of tropical cyclone Idai, especially those in the seriously affected areas of Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi.
The Catholic Church unites in solidarity with the families of those who lost their lives in the disaster of the cyclone. May they rest in peace.
We applaud all the rescue agencies and the international community for their quick response to the tragedy and their generous efforts to rescue the survivors and bring relief to all the afflicted.
We invite the people of God to pray for the victims and the governments of the affected countries as they continue to work hard to restore the situation to normality.
We also invite all the people of good will to extend the hand of charity in any way they can to alleviate the sufferings of the victims.
Lastly we would like to convey a message of condolence to our brothers Bishops in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi. May they stand strong in faith as they continue to work hard with the governments to ease the situation. Be assured that we are deeply touched by your sufferings and we will do all in our power to be with you."
