This morning was the official opening of the Caritas Internationalis 20th General Assembly. After the address of Cardinal Oscar Andrés Rodríguez Maradiaga (Caritas Internationalis President), the words of welcome by Mgr Gianpietro Dal Toso (Cor Unum secretary), the delegates from the different countries were introduced according to continents.
We then had three speakers on the theme for the morning: "A poor Church for the poor",
- Fr Gustavo Guitiérrez Merino, OP, from Perú
- Prof. Beverley Haddad from South Africa
- Ms Sluita Smith, from American Samoa
